WRITING AND DRAWING
Scribble Press
Free app for story creation and sharing. Stories go into iBooks instantly! Start with a blank page or one of 50 templates. Incorporate drawings, stickers (included) and photos. There is also a gallery of books to download for free.
Doodle Buddy
Quick drawing and writing that can be shared with a partner.
Toontastic
The reviewers say this is a must for storytelling. Students create a comic book with their own recorded audio and animations.
Puppet Pals HD - free
Students create their own shows with animation by selecting actors and dragging them to the stage. Tapping a button will record movements and audio for playback later. The creative aspects are obvious but I think students could also use this app to record their learning on any subject.
Magnetic Alphabet HD
This app truely does provide virtual magnetic letters and numbers. Kids slide them up onto the board to spell, learn their ABC's. Capital letters are included but other "sets" can be purchased sparately including some with story telling pieces.
Bill Atkinson PhotoCard - free
Upload your own photos and email a "postcard" for free or pay to have one printed and sent by U.S. mail. This would be a cool way for students to share their learning. They could email their postcard to the teacher who could share them with the class or print them out.
Writer's Hat
This idea generator gives the student a fun dose of inspiration to combat writer's block.
Guardian Eyewitness
Free photo app from the UK newspaper. Not all photos will be appropriate for the primary school. However, the teacher could choose a photo to use as a quick writing inspiration.
Whiteboard apps
There are several apps that turn the iPad into a whiteboard. Whiteboard Lite is a good free one as is ShowMe. ShowMe also supports audio recordings which would be good for the primary age student.
Kabaam
Tell creative stories in a matter of minutes! Kabaam creates & publishes your own comics with just a few taps. Take photos with your device's camera or import them from your photo library. Create stories up to nine photos long and add customizable speech, thought and shout bubbles as well as notes and Wham!, Pow!, Zoink! overlays. Share your stories on the major social platforms and on http://kabaam.cc. Send them to your friends by e-mail or save them to your photo library.
Shake-A-Phrase
Shake-a-Phrase is a fun language app that teaches vocabulary and parts of speech. Features over 2,000 words and definitions in 5 colorful and engaging themes.
Wixie
If your school utilizes Wixie's paint tools, text options, clip art, and voice recording. Wixie Show is the perfect way for parents, grandparents, and friends to view projects created in Wixie. A tablet version of Wixie itself is promised for this summer.
Splashtop Whiteboard
Splashtop Whiteboard allows teachers and students to turn their iPad into an interactive white board. Once connected to their computer over Wifi, they can watch Flash media with fully synchronized video and audio, control PC and Mac applications then annotate lesson content all from an iPad. Now interact with students at their desk or teach from all four corners of the class!
Splashtop Whiteboard offers users of existing interactive white boards (IWBs) - such as Mimeo, Mobi, Promethean, Polyvision, or Smart Technologies - a way to extend their investment by accessing their tools from anywhere in the class without using wireless slates. For users who do not use an IWB, now they can build one at a fraction of the cost!
